华中农业大学是一所拥有128年办学历史、教育部直属的“211工程”和“双一流”建设高校。学校以生命科学和农科为优势，生物学、园艺学、畜牧学、兽医学、农林经济管理5个学科连续两轮入选国家“双一流”建设学科，7个学科进入A类学科；14个学科领域进入ESI前1%,2个学科领域进入前1‰,1个学科领域进入前1‰o,分布于农学、生命科学、理学、工学、医学、社会科学等6个门类；进入前1%的植物学与动物学、农业科学、生物学与生物化学、环境科学/生态学、微生物学、分子生物与遗传学，实现了农学、生命科学2个门类的全覆盖；进入前1‰的植物学与动物学、进入前1‰的农业科学，实现了农学门类的全覆盖。

信息学院设有计算机科学系、生物信息系、大数据科学系、人工智能系、数学与统计学系、公共计算机教学部以及信息科学实验教学中心等7个系(部、中心)教学机构；依托作物遗传改良全国重点实验室、农业微生物资源发掘与利用全国重点实验室、果蔬园艺作物种质创新与利用全国重点实验室等国家级研究平台，建有农业农村部智慧养殖技术重点实验室、农业智能技术教育部工程研究中心、农业生物信息湖北省重点实验室、湖北省农业大数据工程技术研究中心等4个省部级科研平台。学院设有电子信息专业学位博士点、硕士点，生物信息学、农业信息工程二级博士点、硕士点，计算机科学与技术一级学科硕士点，数学一级学科硕士点，应用统计专业学位硕士点；开设计算机科学与技术、生物信息学、数据科学与大数据技术、人工智能、信息与计算科学等5个本科专业。
