Essential Functions

 

Position Summary

The laboratory studies mechanism of cell division and fusion, chromosome instability and cancer: how centromere-kinetochore proteins, spindle checkpoint proteins, oncoproteins, tumor suppressor proteins, non-coding RNAs, stem cells and these genetic and epigenetic mechanisms work together to impact on chromosome-genomic stability, cancer, neurodegenerative disease (e.g., Levy Body Dementia), and regenerative medicine (. The laboratory will determine methods/tools to block or cure them including specific drug and stem cell therapy. 

 

To address this problem, we use multiple approaches –molecular and cellular biology, biomedical engineering, pharmacology, biochemistry, tissue culture of mouse-human cancer cell lines and pluripotent cells (e.g. stem cells and iPS cells), cloning, CRISPR-based genome editing, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, other cell-based assay, and computational models of cell signaling and cancer. Responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting. Performs not only routine tests but also academic research to be an author in peer-reviewed journal and/or future external faculty candidate with direction from Dr. Yohei Niikura: supervisor, principal investigator.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

●Perform academic research to be an author in peer-reviewed journal and/or future external faculty candidate

●Grow and maintain cells in tissue culture, plasmid cloning, protein purification, CRISPR-based genome editing, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, other cell-based assays.

●Use or operate equipment and instruments such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, pH meters and other standard laboratory equipment.

●Preparing and maintaining commonly used lab reagents.

●Ordering and organizing laboratory supplies.

Handling Biological and Chemical hazards.

Assists language translation (Scientific-Professional English-Chinese; in speaking/listening and reading/writing) for the principal investigator (Common language in the lab is English.)

 

Required Qualifications

●Both English and Chinese proficiency (Common language in the lab is English).

●PhD degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology + closely related Post-doc experience (ideally within 3 years experience of Post-doc). Strong publication record is advantageous.

●Experience of plasmid construction, protein purification, some cell culture, and handling of electronical instruments (e.g, fluorescent microscope, flow cytometry, etc.) is primary prerequisite; mouse experimentation or experience of computational programming is a plus.

●Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.

●Working knowledge of basic computer software (word, excel, power point, photo shop, illustrator, etc.).

●Positive mindset, strong commitment, and stable responsibility to achieve goals of projects.

Salary Range and Benefits

●Total 150,000 RMB / year is guaranteed.

●10-20% higher salary than the standard of the Model Animal Research Center (MARC), Nanjing University is guaranteed.

●The salary includes 20.5% insurance; plus, additional 39.7% insurance is covered by the budget of principal investigator.

●Performance incentive increase of salary is considered year by year.

 

Applicant Special Instructions

Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment. Could be able to provide standard care to research animals (especially mice).
