ShanghaiTech University invites applications for a full-time tenured school leader with rich administrative experience to be the Vice Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology (SLST). This position reports to Dean.

 

The Position:

The Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs of SLST will report to the Founding Dean and serving as a key member of the leadership of SLST, provide operational leadership in overseeing the School’s faculty development, including recruitment, formal evaluation, promotion, retention, and services. The Vice Dean also serves as the official liaison between the School and the University’s Academic committee for tenure and promotion. In addition, the vice Dean is in charge of personnel policies and procedure related to the faculty families and possibly other new responsibilities as deemed to be fitting for the position. These responsibilities dove tail with those of the Executive Dean for education and Vice Dean for Academic affairs who is in charge of academic programs (i.e. organizing funding applications, inter-institutional and international collaborations, seminars/meeting programs, and faculty forums).

 

Qualification: 

Qualified candidates should currently hold a tenured full professor position or equivalent in a leading institution, with a vibrant research program and service spirit, and preferably leadership experience.

About SLST

SLST aims to develop into a world-class, research-oriented school in life science and technology, drawing strength not only from its outstanding full-time faculty but also from two affiliated world-class biomedical research institutes at ShanghaiTech (including three laboratories led by Nobel laureates) as well as from select faculty members jointly appointed with institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai who conduct world-class research. SLST is aggressively building its faculty to eventually 100 primary tenure-track faculty positions. Most faculty members receive their PhD and/or postdoctoral training, or formerly held tenure-track faculty positions, in leading US universities and research institutions. The faculty consists of mainly young talents with high motivation and creative energy. SLST is creating a dynamic hub where research, education, innovation and entrepreneurship are tightly integrated to nurture students who are expected to become leading scientists in basic research and innovators/entrepreneurs in biomedical/ biotechnical industries.
