Position Description                                                                     

Director of GTEC is responsible for planning and performance of GTEC’s functions. The main functions are:

·Register, protect and commercialize GTIIT IP;

·Engage with industry in R&D projects;

·Support innovation through acceleration and incubation;

·Educate and encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in GTIIT community.

 

Duties and Responsibilities                                                                   

·Plan and conduct market research and prepare detailed reports regarding industrial research grants, potential funds, and other as required by the supervisor; 

·Plan and conduct intellectual property (IP) surveys of GTIIT research results;

·Plan and conduct training programs and campaigns for encouraging disclosure of inventions by GTIIT faculty, students and staff;

·Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with industrial partners

·Track and maintain horizontal sponsorships in coordination with other offices at GTIIT;

·Lead in the efforts to license GTIIT IP to industry;

·Lead in the efforts to accelerate and then incubate GTIIT startup companies;

·Prepare and conduct training programs on entrepreneurship and innovation to industry, government and other institutions.

 

Required Job Specifications                                                               

·Required qualification / academic degree: Master degree from an internationally reputable university;

·Required experience: Working experience in higher education institutions is preferred, of which there are 5 years related working experience, industrial technology innovation center or industrial incubation park experience is preferred;

·Required experience: Licensing processes of IP;

·Ability to cultivate, establish and maintain good working relationships with start-up companies, entrepreneurs, mentors, universities, research institutions, industry experts, associations, local and provincial governments, funding agencies and venture capital;

·Experience as a founder, team member or consultant; Experience in venture capital or private equity, as well as knowledge and experience of the commercialization process is preferred.

 

Required Job Competencies                                                                 

·Advanced language ability in Chinese and English (both speaking and writing); able to work in an English-speaking environment;

·Strong sense of responsibility and initiative, and good managerial and organizational skills;

·Good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international, cross-cultural work environment;

·Ability to lead a team to work on multiple tasks under pressure;

·Able to adapt to tight work schedules and frequent business travel.
